About Us

Who we are and what we do

GSP Regional Skywarn was developed in 2010 as a means of having a central focal point for the areas of upstate SC along with adjoining counties covered by the NWS WFO located at GSP in Greer, SC.

Our group is comprised of numerous dedicated amateur radio operators located throughout the upstate of SC, including several outside agencies, (i.e. Fire Department groups and such).

The command staff is comprised of several volunteers that have extensive experience in emergency communications, emergency services or emergency management, and other weather related training, such as advanced radar training, advanced skywarn spotter, and such. Listed below is an example of the number of combined years of experience that this group has.

Amateur Radio – 70+ years

Emergency Services including EMD, 911,Fire,ect. – 45+ years

During local events we operate off of the 145.470 repeater located on Thicketty Mt. near Gaffney, SC this repeater has a tone of 123.00, with a negative offset . Once we move to a larger event the regional net is activated using the SCHearts network, www.schearts.us, which has been very helpful in allowing a select few of the command staff to have access to do all the necessary linking by computer when needed, which allows us to link and cover most all areas of the SC upstate and even into NC and GA areas.

While we cover primarily the upstate of SC, we encourage and welcome the participation of other groups within our coverage area, we have been successful in making relationships with other nearby groups that are located within the GSP WFO area, and that is what we really want. Everyone working together for the same outcome.

If you are an amateur radio operator, involved in emergency services, or you are just interested in severe weather spotting, within the GSP WFO area and would like to join us, we welcome you.
